Hi tennisguru,
I'm using the Semi-Western grip but sometimes my consistency is out of place. Please help me improve my stroke. What stance to take and the point of contact.
Appreciate your time.
Thanks!
Lito,
I would recommend having an open stance at the point of contact however make sure you get your shoulders turned while you are in the open stance. Also you can bring your elbow closer into your body during your swing. This will help improve your consistency right away.

I use the eastern forehand grip. It works all the time.

Sorry lito, I'm not TennisGuru, but if I can help, my pleasure ;oD
I use a semi-western too with consistency whether on high or low balls, for inside in or inside out forehand. But consistency doesn't come from open stance or not, it's just the result of your eye focus on the ball on the spot you should hit it. Most of people who lack concistency focus on the target in their opponent field instead of the ball. I invite you to look at Federer pics looking at the ball in his string. It's amazing he might be the only one staring at the ball through his strings ! All the other players tend to focus in front of their rackets.
So think like if you had to shoot a plate at balltrap. I mean you track the ball and just after the bounce, your eyes should jump to focus at the zone where you should hit the ball when in the target and bow ! Don't try to look at the result immediatly, just do it later, while uncoiling your run to the ball and get back in place. It's not obvious at first try, but enforce this technique for a couple of weeks and you'll see the results coming soon.
Being head still is the best advice anyone can give to both fhs and bhs. Seeing the strings through and having the confidence to hit through takes time to sink in when you are too eager to see where the ball lands. Teaching young kids early has to be the right thing to do. I tend to use a swiss ball and teach my kids to hit the ball with their hands by keeping the head still.

Whatever grip you use it must be comfortable and secure so you can forget about it during play.
I really like the semi-western.
Semi western grip for me worked the best for my game.
