The new point system, which is based off the pro tour and ITF, is not meant for juniors who intend to attend high school and do not have wealthy parents. Since the new system began the rankings are very lopsided favoring the kids who are willing to travel and miss school to get a few points here and there. The most talented kids who may not be able to sacrifice an education or have the money are being left behind. This point system works fine on the pro tour and ITF where there is no consolation but when you have feed in consolation, this is an absurd system that requires junior to play 3-5 matches a day just to make the system work. The USTA is not concerned with these major flaws, they are just ecstatic that there is an alternate list of 100 or more in each age group. Never mind that the strongest players can't even get into the main draw to compete! A ranking system should not be based on how many tournaments you can afford to travel to but should be based on talent of the player.
