Tennisteen's quote in another thread really jumped out at me. Partially because this has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I recently wrote a somewhat incoherent blurb on the subject on a buddy's (now defunct) sports blog See the July 26 entry. I realize as a teaching professional, that I am now part of the problem. Even my modest rates are too far out of reach for the average Jane. I wasn't able to take private lessons growing up because they were too expensive, I could only hope for the occasional free clinic at the public courts. I have agreed to help one of the local public high schools in the Spring, but hopefully as I progress in this profession I'll be able to do a lot more for some of the underprivileged children in our area.
Anyway, I'd love to read thoughts on this issue from any of you.
