    Wink Chipped backhand

    Hi,

I think I can help you with that one.

A sliced backhand may be a defensive shot. It's a shot with a complete followthrough and usualy played from the baseline. You may play it along the line or crosscourt, exactly the same way. The same movement allows you to play a last resource defensive lob if your oponent is rushin the net. This shot allows you to hide your intention a litle bit longer...

A chipped backhand is an approach shot that you play well into the court or answering a flat and hard serve. You hit it as if you were hitting a volley. No follow through at all and very litle slice. just enough slice to keep controll. If you play it along the line the shot should be played as long and close to de line as possible. If you decide to go crosscourt, play it short and hard to the side line. In both cases, lean against the ball when you hit it and follow the shot to the net. Get ready for a volley or a smash.

Whats the difference? This is our opinion ...

Not a lot. A chipped backhand tends to have a shorter follow through, (more of a punch feel) and is hit at the oncoming volleyers feet or its a shot where you are taking the pace off the ball. A slice backhand has a longer follow through and has more side and under spin on. This tends to be hit from the back to keep the ball deep and low or for shorter angled variations. Its all interpretation really. A chip is a variation of slice basically.
