    Doubles serving rules

Question concerning the position of the person serving. Does the lateral position of the server have to be within the lines of the singles court, or can he stand so far the the right or left that he is adjacent to the doubles court boundary (projection thereof).

he/she does not have to be in line with the singles court, he/she can stand out wider...

    don't do it

But it's not a good idea to serve from the alley, since good doubles players are taught to return serve down the middle.
