    Tennis Shoes

I have just bought my first pair of authentic tennis shoes. They are being shipped, so I have yet to try them. I'm curious, what are the advantages of tennis shoes over say basketball shoes? On a hard surface, they require similar attributes.. the ability to stop and start on a dime. What else is there to it? And how about running shoes? Do tennis shoes really have an advantage?

Basket ball shoes actually makes pretty good tennis shoes in my opinion I even used to prefer them since they wrap around your ankle a bit more making it harder to roll your ankle when doing quick sidesteps. Other than that there are really no huge difference like you said they require similar functions on hard court, I can only guess they provide more traction on clay and grass. As for the shoes themselves it really depends on which pair you got some tennis shoes just feel normal while others are really nice and can provide a comforting boost to your game.

Hmm.. I don't really know. That's a really good question, actually. I'm guessing there are different types of support and comfort.
And also, what shoes did you order? (:

I've never used Head, so I'll be interested to see what you think of them.
Also, I've found the answer to your question.
Tennis shoes are made for high stability and lateral movements to move quickly on a court from side to side. If you wearing running shoes on a tennis court there is a high chance of injury and you might stumble and hurt your ankles.

Thank you for that information. I currently use running shoes and infact do experience that problem to atleast a mild degree.

    No problem (:
Yes, I had that problem a while ago also. Apparently using running shoes while playing tennis can cause 'Athletes foot'

Oh god, I apologize for my online stalker, you get used to her after a while though, it actually gets amusing.
She sort of reminds of Rose from two and a half men; She becomes a regular greeted stalker.

Well, anyway, where did you buy your shoes from?

Tennis shoes tend to be built a little more durably than basketball shoes as they come in contact with a more abrasive surface (hard courts here in the U.S.). Basketball shoes are great, but it is easy to tear up the upper portion of the shoe when dragging them on a back hand, etc. Don't use running shoes. You have a good chance of turning an ankle from the lateral movements that are required in tennis. If you need ankle support, try a 3/4 top tennis shoe or do the basketball shoe. Only thing is is that the basketball shoe will wear out much quicker.

i dont think the treads on running shoes are very good for tennis. They are probably much to grippy for lateral movements and therefore are risky for rolling ankles.
