LT ~ Sadly you are requesting some consideration from a programmed server. The memberships that join which are clearly advertisement orientated, come from a program rather than a person. Some guys sit at their computers and write programs that search out specific words for their Bots to look for. Once they find the criteria they are looking for, it is a simple matter of creating a membership and posting whatever messages they have.

A couple of days ago, I had to remove pages of porn from here for the first time. Even though dealing with shoes and gold etc is a pita, having porn show up is zero tolerance.

I removed them and blocked the server they were coming from. However, that doesn't mean this person won't try again from a different address. So it's important to keep your eyes open. Which is why it's equally important to always greet the member that post in the New Member's Section to see if they are actually a person or not.

    Thanks LT

The only acceptable loss is when your opponent was better than you on that given day.

I saw that porn thing also.. quite inacceptable.
And yes, I do hope people stop posting all the spam.
It makes it more disturbing that they make the same topic around 3 or 4 times.
Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight
Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight
Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try
Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

That Membership [LarriCroLL] has been removed however I must reiterate that these are most likely not actual people but programs that are posting similar content on many Forums like TennisW.Com.

Trying to appeal to these members is a waste of time because there isn't anyone that is actually reading it. All we can do is remove them as we see them and block the IP Address permanently.

John & I are very sorry for these inconveniences and I'm certain John will work on doing something about it very soon to block these before they get through the front door.

    Thanks LT

    Actually,
What i realize is they make fake titles like
    'wanna play better tennis'
    then you open it,
and its turns out to be advirtisments or SPAM.
    l;
btw, thanks Lawn Tennis and Coach.
i though nobody would realize or care..
its a relief that something is being done, or well.. said about it.

TW used to be absolutely plagued by spammers, mostly automated spam bots, but it is all under control for the most part. I'd say we are 99% improved over how bad the spam used to be over 1-2 years ago.

Most of the spammers are bots, scripts running on servers or computers that scan for new forums to spam and do so automatically.

TW is configured in a way that helps to block these forum spam bots, but it's not always 100% and also can be bypassed easily when the spammer is an actual person (or a bot with human help).

The war on spam has been going on for a long time now. The spammers aren't going away and they are getting better over time. All we can really do is automatically block them as best we can and then beyond that take care of banning them and deleting their messages manually.

Anyhow, a few minutes ago I added a new tool to our arsenal and it will help us to combat spam with your help. It works along with the reported post feature. Previously when posts were reported the reports were only sent to the moderators of the particular forum. Now in addition to the email reports the report system will now also create a thread (in a private forum) where any moderators can look through & take necessary action. I believe this will make it easier to track down the problematic messages, etc.

Hey LT, I edited your message just to remove the links. The links being there would continue being a benefit to the spammer who posted them.

Tonight I spent a bit of time and deleted probably 100 or so posts from various spammers. That's a lot, but could be worse. A few years back when I returned from vacation I got on TW to find something like 6 pages of spam threads, which was hundreds of threads and even more spam posts. Took a while to clean that one up and is part of the reason why new members need to post in the intro forum now prior to gaining access to the rest of the site. Helps to slow down the spammers.

Hello John. It's been a while. Well good work on eliminating all the spam. Even though I have one of these "" on my first post, really I don't hate it.. just gets in the way of the whole forum. In fact, everytime it happens, I notice activity among members here dies. I guess people don't like an encyclopedia of spam. Good to hear from you.

Thanks. I'm spending a bit of time right now looking through everything and deleting/banning any spammers that have gotten through our defenses...
