American tennis has lost its dominance in the world

I hope it is good topic for discussion on tennis forum. I asked some famous tennis coaches and tennisplayers that question. There are their thoughts and opinion.

There are many answers to why American tennis has lost its dominance in theworld. The first thought is that everybody is in a hurry to turn pro, and theyneglect the fundamentals. How many women can serve? How many men or women canvolley or hit backhand slices? Everybody plays the same game. It’s like a rockthrowing contest. Next, Americans tennis players are spoiled. They think theycan buy strokes. It doesn’t work that way. Finally, the USTA has done adisastrous job of promoting grass roots tennis. They put all their emphasis andmoney in the 20 best 12 year olds and older tennis players, but the best athleteshave been playing soccer for 8 years by then. In Europe, tennis has much lesscompetition.

American culture has changed – too many distractions for young kids. Globalcompetition has become stronger. Tennis is the #2 or #3 sport in mostcountries, but for the USA it is much farther down the list.

I was wondering what you think about the reasons. Why are a few American players in TOP of both Tours? Where are young talented and ambitious players? What should be done to improve the situation?

I agree. The best in the world are now from Europe which includes the eastern bloc nations. Americans for some reasons are not progressing the way they should. It has to all come back to the teacher if you don't go as far as you think.
